Hey fam! 👋
Today we’re taking a first look at something that really caught my attention, the Mangmi Air X, a brand-new Android handheld that seems to be taking aim at the budget end of the market. But what makes it special is who’s behind it: word on the street is that some former AYANEO staff have gone off to do their own thing, and this might just be their first creation!
So let’s dig in and take a closer look 👇
🎨 Design and Colors
Right out of the gate, Mangmi is offering the Air X in three color options:
⚪ White
⚫ Black
🩶 DMG Grey (Yes, that classic Game Boy style grey!)

All three models have the same layout, but DMG grey might be a nostalgic favorite for retro gamers like us.
🕹️ Controls & Layout
The layout will feel instantly familiar to PlayStation fans, with the left stick up top and the D-pad below, just like the DualShock or DualSense.
✅ Dual Hall Effect Joysticks – RGB-lit with support for 67 million colors and multiple lighting modes
✅ Stacked Shoulder Buttons – L1/L2 and R1/R2 on top, just like modern consoles
✅ Start & Select below right stick, Home & Back below the left stick

These RGB 3D Hall sticks are said to offer fast rebound and precise control, and if Mangmi really nails the stick feel and durability here, this could be a huge win for a handheld under $100.

📺 Display
One of the most impressive things on paper is the screen:
5.5” IPS touchscreen
1920 × 1080 resolution (Full HD)
16:9 aspect ratio
110% sRGB color coverage
Up to 450 nits brightness

For comparison, many retro handhelds at this price point don’t even crack 720p, so a full HD screen at 5.5" is a real treat – perfect for Android gaming, retro emulation, and especially streaming AAA games from services like Xbox Cloud or Steam Link.
🧠 Processor & OS
Under the hood, the Air X runs on:
Snapdragon 662 SoC
Adreno GPU (part of Snapdragon 662 package)
Android-based OS (with a custom Mangmi launcher)
While the Snapdragon 662 isn’t the newest chip on the block, it’s a solid performer for Android gaming and emulation up through the PSP, Dreamcast, and some GameCube/PS2 titles, depending on optimization.
No word on the RAM just yet, so that’s something we’ll be keeping a close eye on as launch approaches.
🔋 Battery Life
The battery setup is also promising:
🔋 5000 mAh battery
⚡ 15W charging
🕐 Up to 8 hours (claimed) depending on usage
That’s a very reasonable amount of juice for a device this size, and 15W charging should help get you back into action quickly.
🌀 Cooling & Build
Airflow matters for gaming, and the Air X includes:
🌀 Circular air intake on the back
🔥 Top exhaust between the shoulder buttons

It also has a power/standby button and volume rocker on the top edge, which is a familiar layout that should feel comfortable for most handheld users.
🧩 Mangmi’s Software Suite
Mangmi is also offering some thoughtful software touches:
🎮 M Space – their custom gaming hub
🎯 Key mapping – to help with touchscreen-heavy Android games
📚 Sidebar overlay – quick access during gameplay

They also have a game launcher built in, which is likely to keep things focused for gamers without requiring them to dig through Android menus constantly.
💬 Final Thoughts (for now)
I’m really excited to see how this one turns out. The specs are promising, the price should be very competitive (rumored to be around US$80), and there’s clearly a lot of gaming-focused thought behind the design. RGB hall sticks, a full HD screen, Android compatibility, and a custom launcher all sound great on paper; now we just need to see it in action.
